Dhanvantari (Physician of the Gods)
Dhanvantari is the Hindu god of medicine and the physician of the gods (devas), revered as the originator of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. He emerged from the churning of the Ocean of Milk (Samudra Manthana) holding a pot of amrita (the nectar of immortality) in his hands. According to the Bhagavata Purana and Vishnu Purana, Dhanvantari rose from the ocean as the last of the fourteen treasures (ratnas), carrying the pot of nectar that the devas and asuras had been churning for.
