Ditaolane is the great hero and deity of the Basotho people who saved humanity from the all-devouring monster Khanyapa (also called Kholumodumo or Kammapa). Only one pregnant woman survived the monster's rampage by hiding in a stable. She gave birth to Ditaolane, who emerged from the womb wearing a necklace of divination bones and instantly grew into a full-grown man.
