Div (Daeva)

demon · Iran · Middle East and North Africa

Divs (Persian: dīv, from Avestan daeva) are demonic beings of Iranian tradition, demonized in Zoroastrianism from older Indo-Iranian deities. In Ferdowsi's Shahnameh they are the chief antagonists of Rostam, including Div-e Sepid, the White Div who blinded King Kay Kavus, and Akvan-e Div.
