Dodo
The Dodo is the great bush-spirit and bogeyman of Hausa tradition in Niger and northern Nigeria, an ancient deity of the dry season whose wife Damina brings the rains. A giant, cannibalistic being of forests, swamps and baobab trees, he seizes those who stray from home; his tales enforce obedience, community and respect for boundaries.
