In Swedish folklore, the drake is a wingless, serpentine dragon that guards treasure hoards deep in the forest. Unlike the fire-breathing dragons of continental European legend, the Swedish drake is primarily a giant serpent with a horse-like mane or fish-like dorsal fin along its spine. It is often called lindorm (lindworm) and is distinguished by its ability to make treasure grow: anything lying beneath a drake increases in value at the same rate the serpent grows.
