Mokele-Mbembe

dragon · Democratic Republic of the Congo · Central Africa

Mokele-Mbembe is a great water creature of Central African oral tradition, described by Bantu and Ba'Aka peoples as a large, long-necked, reptilian beast that lurks in deep river pools and swamps of the Congo Basin. Local reports later drew dozens of cryptozoological expeditions; science usually explains sightings as misidentified elephants, rhinos, or large snakes.
