Duppy
Duppy is the Bahamian term, shared across the English-speaking Caribbean, for the spirit of a dead person. Duppies are usually malevolent and wander at night, haunting the places they knew in life, and obeah practitioners may summon them or set them on others. Bahamians take precautions against duppies, reflecting an African-descended view of the dead lingering among the living.
