Ekong

serpent · Equatorial Guinea · Central Africa

Ekong is a colossal serpent guardian in Fang mythology (Equatorial Guinea). It inhabits deep rivers and underwater caverns, manipulating water and using hypnosis to protect sacred places. Sacred rhythms known to Fang elders can counter it. Ekong symbolizes the boundary between physical and spiritual worlds and reinforces respect for water sources.
