Elk Spirit (Laotian)
In Lao animist tradition, the forests are filled with phi — spirits that inhabit natural features, animals, and places. An elk spirit is one such phi tied to the hills and bamboo forests of northern Laos, where the boundary between the human world and the spirit world is thin. The Lao believe that every mountain pass, stream, and grove of trees is watched over by a spirit guardian, and large mammals like elk are especially potent vessels of spiritual power.
