The Eloko (singular: Eloko or Eloki) are dwarf-like, vicious ancestral spirits from the mythology of the Mongo-Nkundo people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. These forest-dwelling creatures are believed to be the restless spirits of ancestors who died with unresolved grudges, condemned to haunt the darkest, densest parts of the rainforest. Unlike benevolent spirits, the Eloko are fiercely territorial and vengeful, guarding their forest treasures including game animals and rare plants.
