Encantada
Encantadas are fairy spirits of the Pyrenees mountains, found in Catalan, Aragonese, and Basque folklore. Unlike the winged fairies of northern European tradition, encantadas are enchanted women bound to specific natural features — caves, waterfalls, mountain lakes called ibones, and deep forest pools. They are most active on the Nit de Sant Joan (St. John's Eve, June 23), the summer solstice, when they emerge from their watery hiding places to wash clothes in moonlight and comb their long hair with golden combs.
