Jinn of the Aflaj
Omani legend holds that the aflaj — the ancient gravity-fed irrigation channels of Oman — were dug by jinn. According to a widespread tale, when the Prophet Suleiman stopped at Oman's Salot Fort on his way to Jerusalem and found the Bedouin without water, he commanded a jinn to build a thousand canals each day of his ten-day stay, giving Oman its ten thousand aflaj. In Bahla the same tradition credits a jinn sister with creating the town's irrigation system.
