Finnur hin Fróði
Finnur hin Fróði (Finn the Wise) is the most renowned figure in Faroese wizard folklore, a legendary wise man and magic-worker associated with the 'Black Book' (Cyprianus/Svarteboken) tradition that spread across Scandinavia. In Faroese folk belief, wizards and cunning folk possessed books of black magic that could only be passed on to a willing successor. These practitioners could control weather, heal the sick, find lost objects, ward off trolls and hidden people, and counter malevolent magic. The island of Svínoy and the village of Sumba are particularly associated with wizard lore. The tra
