Fire-Mouthed Hyena of Bahla
Elders of Bahla tell of desert hyenas with mouths of flame that prey on camels in the night. Mohammad al-Hashemi, a Bahla native in his seventies, was raised on such stories, which adults used to keep children indoors — 'they used to warn us not to go out after sunset because of magic.'
