Fjellvette (mountain wight) is a nature spirit specific to the mountains of Vestlandet. The fjellvette is a type of vette (nature spirit) that guards specific peaks, mountain passes, high pastures, and rocky crags. Each mountain in Vestlandet had its own fjellvette who protected the wildlife and punished humans who showed disrespect — killing too many reindeer, scarring the mountain with mining, or building without permission.
