The Flat Pipe Creator is the supreme being in Arapaho creation mythology. In the beginning there was only water covering everything. A man carrying a Flat Pipe walked on the water for six days, weeping and fasting, searching for a safe place to rest his pipe. On the seventh day he summoned seven cottonwood trees and all the creatures. Various animals dove for mud—Grebe, Kingfisher, Otter, Beaver, Garter Snake, and others—all failed.
