Fog Woman

spirit-animal · United States · North America

Fog Woman is a Tlingit supernatural being who, in Swanton's 'Raven and Fog Woman' (myth #108), was Raven's wife. Washing her hands in a basket, she summoned the first salmon into the world; when Raven grew jealous and cruel, she and the salmon departed to the sea. The story explains the origin of salmon runs and the seasons.
