Fox Guardian (Lakota)

guardian · United States · North America

In Lakota tradition the fox (šunğíla) is a genuine medicine animal: it is said to reveal the locations of healing herbs to medicine people and to teach swift escape and courage under fire. The Tokala, the Kit Fox warrior society, took its name and its ideals of bravery, generosity and selfless service from the fox, honoring it as a protector and guide.
