Fox Spirit of Maya
The Maya fox (chomak/ch'amak) is a folk-tale figure of cunning and transformation, and contemporary Maya communities tell stories of the clever fox. Claims that the fox aided the Hero Twins in the Popol Vuh or guarded sacred fire are not supported by the text; the fox is best attested as an everyday trickster of oral tradition.
