Frog (Chʼał)
Frog (Chʼał) is a water spirit in Navajo mythology associated with healing, rain, and the power of speech. Frog is one of the Holy People who taught the Navajo the importance of articulating prayers clearly, because Frog's croaking was the first form of sacred speech. He is closely linked to the Water Chant (Tóee ́ Hózhǫ́ǫ́jí), one of the most powerful healing ceremonies, and his image appears in sandpaintings used during this rite. Frog is believed to bring rain by singing, and his presence near a dwelling signals abundant water and good fortune
