GaayhllGa Jaad (Flood-Tide-Woman)
In Haida tradition the woman whose rising caused the great flood is a tide-controlling figure: mocked for her seaweed-like backbone, she sat at the water's edge and the tide rose with her until the whole island flooded, scattering the people on rafts to different lands. The episode appears in Swanton's Haida Texts and Myths and has been linked to post-glacial sea-level rise.
