Galuxwadzuwus (Crooked-Beak)

spirit-animal · United States · North America

Galuxwadzuwus, the Crooked-Beak of Heaven, is a man-eating bird of the Kwakwaka'wakw winter ceremonial, one of the cannibal attendants of the great devourer Baxbaxwalanuksiwe at the North End of the World. Dancers who wear his long, downward-curving beak mask in the Hamatsa ceremony tame his uncontrolled hunger through ritual.
