The Gan (also spelled Gaan or Ga'an) are sacred mountain spirit beings in Apache tradition, central to the spiritual and ceremonial life of the Western Apache, Chiricahua, and other Apache groups. The Creator, known as Usen, sent these powerful spirit beings to teach the Apache people how to live in harmony with the land, each other, and the spirit world. The Gan are ancient messengers and teachers whose wisdom is preserved in over a thousand years of ceremonial songs.
