Garcis (or Gartis)
Garcis (also known as Gartis) is a giant from Latvian mythology, sharing characteristics with giants found throughout Baltic and Slavic folklore. These beings are described as incredibly strong but not particularly intelligent, often creating landscape features accidentally through their clumsy actions. In Latvian folk songs (dainas), which preserve much of the pre-Christian Baltic mythological tradition, Garcis appears as a semi-comic figure whose enormous strength is matched only by his naivety. He is the Latvian cognate of the Lithuanian Gigantis and shares similarities with the Norse jotun
