Giantress (Old Woman Giant)
In the Chinook origin account, an old giantess, wise in the protocols of the spirit world, gave tools and guidance as the South Wind hatched Thunderbird's egg on Saddleback Mountain; the children that emerged became the first Chinook people. The tale also explains why salmon are sliced in a particular way, following the giantess's instructions.
