Gle
Gle (Ge among the northern Dan) is the supreme being or supernatural force of the Dan, whose manifestation is the mask and the masked performer. Gle encompasses a history, a system and a philosophy in Dan thought. Masks are divided into dean gle (used for initiations and entertainment) and bu gle (associated with warriors and leadership). Each Gle has a yinannu ('translation') that determines its importance, including joy and dance, reading a person's destiny, and success in war. One Gle called Kong is presided over solely by women and concerns initiation, excision, childbirth and other matter
