The Great Horned Serpent (Mishiginebig) is a powerful underwater serpent of Anishinaabe mythology, ruler of the underwater world. It is described as an enormous serpent with horns or antlers, often associated with copper, storms, and the depths of the Great Lakes. The Great Horned Serpent is the eternal opponent of the Thunderbirds and the arch-enemy of Nanabozho. In one story, Nanabozho's battle with the Great Serpent caused a great flood that destroyed the world, leading to its recreation from mud brought by the muskrat
