Green Knight (Grøn Ridder)

spirit · Denmark · Nordic

The Green Knight (Grøn Ridder) is a figure from the 14th-century Middle English Arthurian poem 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,' not Danish folklore. He appears as Bertilak de Hautdesert, transformed by Morgan le Fay to test Arthur's court. No independent Danish folk tradition attests a 'Green Knight' as a nature guardian. The Danish name is simply a translation of the Arthurian character.
