Gu

forest-spirit · Burkina Faso · West Africa

Gu is a spirit of the Guro people of central Ivory Coast, known as the wife of Zamble, the great mythical being of the Guro, from whom he learned how to appear to humans; her mask dances in Guro masquerades. The entry's attribution to the Mossi of Burkina Faso is mistaken; the attested tradition is Guro, not Mossi.
