Guabancex is the supreme storm deity of the Taíno people, the indigenous inhabitants of Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Cuba, and other Caribbean islands. She is a zemi (deity) of chaos and disorder, controlling hurricanes, storms, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Guabancex is considered the violent and destructive aspect of the mother goddess Atabey, representing natures raw, untamed power.
