Guardian spirits
Among the Cheyenne, guardian figures and sacred bundles hold a central place: the culture hero Sweet Medicine brought the Four Sacred Arrows, and Standing-on-the-Ground brought the Buffalo Hat, objects that guard the tribe and are tended by designated keepers. Individuals also acquire personal spirit guardians through vision quests.
