Gulyabani

undead · Turkey · Middle East and North Africa

The Gulyabani is a ghoul-like being of Turkish and Anatolian folk belief, from Persian 'Gul-i Beyabani' ('desert ghoul'). It haunts graveyards, ruins, and lonely roads at night, preying on travelers and those who wander alone after dark. In Turkish tradition it appears as a bogeyman used to keep children indoors, and it features in classical Turkish literature.
