Háldi
Háldi (plural Háldit) are nature spirits in Sami animistic belief, the guardians and protectors of specific places, animals, and plants. Each natural location — a lake, a fell, a forest, a stretch of river — has its own háldi who must be respected and propitiated. They are generally benevolent but can cause trouble if offended. Some háldit are associated with sacrificial stones called sieidi. The háldi tradition reflects the Sami belief that all significant natural objects possess a soul.
