Hamnskiftare

shapeshifter · Sweden · Nordic

The Hamnskiftare are rare individuals or spirits capable of 'skin-changing,' the art of projecting their consciousness into the body of an animal. In Swedish folklore, this was often associated with shamanic practices or curses. A Hamnskiftare does not simply transform their physical body; they slide their soul into a 'hamr' (a shape or skin), allowing them to travel vast distances, spy on enemies, or protect their kin from the shadows. This ability is viewed with a mixture of respect and deep suspicion, as the line between a protector and a malicious spy is often blurred
