Hamsa Bird
The hamsa, known in Burmese as hintha, is a sacred water-bird, usually identified with the Brahminy duck, that occupies a central place in Mon and Burmese Buddhist mythology. It is the symbol of the Mon people and of the city of Pegu (Bago), and paired hintha images appear widely in temple art and architecture. In Buddhist contexts the hintha is auspicious and revered, not a demonic being.
