Haugfolk
Haugfolk (mound-people) are supernatural beings in Norwegian folklore who live inside burial mounds and hills. Related to the Old Norse haugbúi (mound-dweller), haugfolk were believed to be the spirits of the ancient dead who continued their lives inside the mounds. They were also associated with the underjordiske (the underground people) and huldrefolk. Haugfolk lived in a parallel world inside the hills, with their own farms, cattle (usually black or speckled), and celebrations. They were said to be wealthy, possessing gold and treasure.
