God of uncultivated food, particularly the fern root (aruhe) and other wild forest plants. Haumia is one of the great children of Ranginui and Papatuanuku. After the separation of his parents, he was pursued by Tawhirimatea and hid in his mother's body, becoming the source of wild edible plants. While his brother Rongo represents cultivated agriculture, Haumia represents the bounty of the untamed forest and wilderness.
