Havmann
Havmann (the sea-man) is a male merman figure in Norwegian coastal folklore, particularly strong along the Vestlandet fjords. Unlike the terrifying sjødraug, the havmann is more neutral — helpful or dangerous depending on how treated. He has the upper body of a strong, handsome man and the lower body of a fish. The havmann speaks in rhyming verse (kvad) and has deep knowledge of the sea. He reveals the best fishing spots to respectful fishermen and warns of storms. If mocked or offended, he capsizes boats. The havmann sits on rocks at sunset combing his long hair and singing. Associated with H
