The Heinzelmännchen are legendary household spirits from Cologne, Germany, akin to brownies or hobgoblins in other European traditions. These diminutive helpers were said to perform all the household and workshop tasks of Cologne's citizens during the night, allowing the lazy inhabitants of the city to enjoy their days in complete leisure.
