Hestenøkken
Hestenøkken (the water horse, also known as nøkk-hesten) is the horse-form of the nøkk water spirit in Norwegian folklore, particularly associated with the lakes and fjords of Hardanger and Sogn in Vestlandet. The hestenøkken appears as a beautiful, pure white horse grazing peacefully by the water's edge. When someone approaches to ride it, the horse waits until they are mounted, then gallops straight into the deepest part of the lake or fjord, drowning the rider.
