Hitra-Kjempen (the Hitra Giant) is a legendary giant said to have lived on the island of Hitra, the largest island in Trøndelag (568 square kilometers). According to local tradition, the Hitra-Kjempen was a solitary giant who was so large that he used entire skerries as stepping stones when walking to the mainland. The giant was known for his enormous appetite — he could eat an entire herd of cattle in one meal — and for throwing boulders at ships he disliked.
