Hrosshvalur
Hrosshvalur (Horse-Whale) is among the most dreaded of the illhveli (evil whales) in Icelandic folklore. It has a horse-like head with a flowing red mane, a horse's tail, and huge eyes — so large it was sometimes called Monoculus (one-eyed). Hrosshvalur is 15-40 meters long and delights in sinking ships by leaping onto them or whipping up waves with its tail. Eating its flesh is forbidden — it boils away in the pot and cannot be cooked.
