Huron Wendigo
The wendigo (windigo, witiko) is a malevolent cannibal spirit of Algonquian peoples — Ojibwe, Cree, Innu, Naskapi, and Algonquin — not the Huron, whose traditions the entry wrongly implies. Documented first by Paul Le Jeune in 1636, the wendigo is an emaciated, ice-hearted giant whose insatiable hunger warns against greed, isolation, and cannibalism in the winter woods.
