Hyldemor
Hyldemoren (the Elder Mother) is a Danish tree spirit who lives in elder trees (hyld). She appears as a small family of folk — men, women, and children — who emerge from the elder tree at night to help diligent housewives with their chores. They churn butter, spin wool, polish copper, and sweep floors, finishing all work before dawn. The elder tree itself was considered sacred in Danish folklore. Cutting elder wood without asking Hyldemor's permission brings death — numerous legends tell of people who made furniture from elder wood and were haunted by disturbances until the furniture was burne
