Ibeji are the sacred twin orishas of the Yoruba, representing the divine spirits of twins. The Yoruba have one of the highest twinning rates in the world, and twins are considered special beings with supernatural powers. The first-born twin is Taiwo ("the one who tastes the world") and the second is Kehinde ("the one who arrives after"). Ibeji are associated with Shango, who is the patron god of twins.
