Isokelekel
Isokelekel, meaning 'shining noble' or 'wonderful king' in Pohnpeian, is a semi-mythical hero and warrior from Kosrae who overthrew the Saudeleur rulers of Pohnpei. According to legend, Isokelekel arrived at Pohnpei with a fleet of canoes and defeated the tyrannical Saudeleur dynasty that had ruled for centuries from the artificial island city of Nan Madol. Through a combination of military strategy and supernatural aid, he liberated the people from oppressive rule. After his victory, Isokelekel married a local woman and established the Nahnmwarki system of governance that continues in modifie
