Jaka Tarub is the mortal protagonist of a famous Javanese folktale from Central Java. A young hunter, he discovers seven heavenly nymphs (bidadari) bathing in a forest lake and steals the shawl of the youngest and most beautiful, Nawang Wulan, preventing her return to heaven.
