Jian (Jian Shu)
Under the recorded name 'Jian', Chinese folk tradition documents jian spirits (魙/漸): 'ghosts of ghosts' that arise when dead souls die again into an even lower class of being. The concept, traced to the 13th century, combines the Tang apotropaic jian character with the idea that ghosts are mortal. The input's headless figure matches the separate wútóu guǐ (headless ghost) tradition.
