Jinn
The jinn of Jordan are fire-born spirits, created of smokeless flame, who dwell in abandoned houses, wells, deep caves, and desert wastes. They can take any form and possess the unwary, yet they can be helpful as well as harmful. Jordanians speak of jinn dancing at crossroads and guard against them with prayer, iron, and the rule of never mentioning them at night.
