Jiu Wei Hu (Nine-tailed Fox)
Jiǔwěihú (九尾狐), the nine-tailed fox of Chinese mythology, is a shapeshifting fox spirit that gains one new tail each century of cultivation. It often appears as a beautiful woman who seduces and corrupts rulers — famously Daji of the Shang dynasty — yet auspicious nine-tailed foxes also appear as omens in the Shanhaijing. It is the ancestor of the Korean gumiho and Japanese kitsune.
